OUR PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUNDS
Originally from Austria, Francesca is co-founder and a director of The Mind Institute. For over a decade Francesca has worked as a counsellor and psychotherapist in private practice, as well as being a mum to twin boys. Francesca is also a fully qualified teacher and personal adviser with over 14 years’ experience of personal development in groups and training in the UK and in Vienna, Austria. Before founding The Mind Institute, Francesca had established Oak Tree Therapy, Training & Research Institute , a centre of excellence in the UK, implementing and delivering clinical and research services. Prior to this she worked for the local authority, supporting young people with multiple and complex issues. Over the years Francesca has undertaken in-depth trainings in psychotherapy, life-coaching and meditation.
Francesca's areas of interest and expertise include relationship difficulties, parenting skills, post-natal depression, fertility issues, anxiety, eating disorders, depression and issues around self-esteem. Most latterly, along with husband, Dr Matthew Shorrock, she has developed a special interest in developing services for expatriates and the international community in Vienna.
She sees her therapeutic role as two-fold: facilitating clients to develop personal insight; and also to provide them with the tools to change and realise their individual values and goals. She enjoys working creatively and using a diverse range of research-informed techniques and theories (Transactional Analysis) to facilitate the growth process. Francesca believes that every person is destined to live a happy, successful and fulfilled life, a philosophy that steers her practice, and that of The Mind Institute.

He holds a firm belief that every person is individual, and has the potential to fully realise their unique qualities, regardless of where they live. Academically speaking, his approach is pluralistic - relational, psychodynamic, pragmatic, existential, and cognitive behavioural - and underpinned by humanistic values. In ordinary terms, he adapts his approach to meet the needs of his client, be that an individual or organisation, and holds the firm believe that a key part (tool) of the growth process is the actual relationship with whom he is working. Matt's philosophy now defines and informs the culture and ethos of The Mind Institute.

Dr Matthew Shorrock & Francesca Shorrock are the founders and directors of The Mind Institute. They are supported by 'like-minded' professional associates, who share their philosophy and vision:
"Every client (individual or organisation) is different. Every client can make decisions. Every client can realise their full unique potential... irrespective of where they are in the world" .
In this vein, we support the internationally community of expatriates and international organisations, and all of our services are delivered in English by native english speakers.
If you share our philosophy, and would like to work with us, then we would very much like to connect with you. www.themindinstitute.at
